We can’t help but think of ourselves as lucky to be working in real estate, especially when our playground is the beautiful state of Western Australia.
Our company sells real estate throughout the Perth region and though all of the areas we cover are special in their own way, there’s one that seems to boast a charm unlike any other- The Swan Valley.
Located a short 25 minutes east of Perth, The Swan Valley is WA’s oldest and most loved wine growing region.
A valley adorned with beautiful vineyards, it’s home to many wineries, restaurants, breweries and road side stalls selling only the freshest of local produce.
Rod McDougall is the proud licensee of Peard Real Estate Swan Valley and as a long-term resident of the area, will tell you, there’s no place like it.
Why I love the Swan Valley… by Rod McDougall
I often get asked what’s so great about the Swan Valley, and if you’re curious too, I suggest you make yourself a cup of tea and get comfortable…
A charming centre to the surrounding areas of Ellenbrook, Whiteman Edge and St Leonards, the Swan Valley is home to many residents who simply couldn’t see themselves living anywhere else, just like my family.
For people looking to live close to the city, whilst still enjoying the close-knit community feel of a small town, Swan Valley has everything to offer. From acreage to cottage and traditional style homes, retirement villages or even apartment living- there is something to suit everyone’s needs.
It features some of the state’s most historic and iconic land marks but at the same time, offers some of the most vibrant and modern suburbs in the Perth- where else can you find something so unique?
Coffee, food, wine and repeat….
There are so many restaurants, breweries and cafes to choose from- though I would hate to choose a favourite, I’ve always had a soft spot for Edgecombe Brothers on Gnangara Road. It is the most laid back venue for lunch that you will find in Valley, with some fantastic fortified wines and the most value-for-money bubbly I have found.
If “the pub” is more your scene, then The Brook Bar and Bistro is equal if not better than any of the best taverns in Perth! With great food, live entertainment, two bars, two beers gardens, Pub Tab and friendly service from staff that aren’t afraid to have a laugh, you won’t be able to fault the place!
If you’re caffeine junkie like many of us, you can’t go past Jaxx in Main Street Ellenbrook! This café has recently opened with one focus and one focus only- to make great coffee. And they do just that!
The Perfect place to raise a family…
On a recent drive down West Swan Road (the main road in the area) my daughter counted 48 horses in the paddocks. There aren’t too many other places in the metro area you can do that…
My wife and I are country kids at heart, having both grown by the countryside. The Swan Valley was the perfect way to give our family a country lifestyle with the added benefits of living close to a city centre. My kids can enjoy the open air and laid back lifestyle whilst still having access to the best schools, recreation centres most importantly, many friends nearby.
The Valley offers many schools to choose from, with my kids attending several of them as the area grew and boundaries changed. We have been fortunate enough to have met some wonderful teachers and great friends along the way.
My girls currently attend Aveley Primary and we’re very lucky to have this highly respected school at our doorstep. If you are looking for a private school for the kids, there’s definitely that option. My son attends Holy Cross and my colleague’s in the office have kids at Swan Valley Anglican, Ellenbrook Christian College and St Helena’s all of which have formed great reputations over the years.
A weekend with friends
The best way to spend the weekend and experience the Valley for yourself, is to get a group of friends together and see where the day takes you. Discovering and exploring the region for yourself is really the best way to do it. You don’t have to drive hundreds of kilometres to have the ultimate food and wine experience when it is right here on your doorstep. But don’t get more wrong, its not all about wining and dining… There’s something for everyone including the kids with Clydesdale drawn wagon tours, the Margaret River Chocolate Factory, Supa Golf, Cuddly Animal Farm and my personal favourite- Oggies Ice Creamery
Whiteman Park is also one of the most sort after family attractions and with free entry it’s an inexpensive way to spend time with the family.
Beautiful surrounds, open skies, coffee, food and wine all in the perfect family location- what’s there not to love!
Our office is having an open day on the 29th of June from 12-3pm where we will be showcasing all of our property listings in the area. If you could see yourself living in the beautiful Swan Valley- come check out what’s on offer…
